The first ten minutes in a new platform set the tone for everything that follows. This guide walks through the four things every new workspace should have configured before your team starts processing real transactions: organization details, team access, security, and your first location.
1. Configure your workspace
Start in Settings → Organization. Set your business name, timezone, and currency first — these propagate into every invoice, report, and receipt you generate, and changing currency later requires re-running historical reports. If you operate across multiple locations, add each one now under Locations; you'll assign staff and inventory to specific locations later.
2. Invite your team
Head to Settings → Team Members → Invite. Each invite requires an email and a role. Roles determine what a user can see and do:
Owner → full access, billing, org deletion
Admin → full access except billing & org deletion
Manager → location-scoped access, no settings changes
Staff → POS access only, no reports or exports3. Turn on essential security features
Before inviting broader staff, enable multi-factor authentication under Settings → Security. We strongly recommend requiring MFA for any role above Staff — Admin and Owner accounts have export and billing access, making them the highest-value target if compromised.
You can also set session timeout duration and restrict login to specific IP ranges if your team works from a fixed office network.
Enable MFA for every Admin and Owner account before you invite anyone else. This takes under a minute and closes the single most common account-takeover path.
4. Create your first location and register
Under Locations → Add Location, name your first storefront or branch and assign a default tax rate. Each location gets its own register sessions, so cash reconciliation stays separate even if you run multiple sites under one organization.
Once your location is saved, you're ready to add products, invite Staff-role users, and start taking transactions.
What's next
With your workspace, team, and security configured, the next steps are setting up your product catalog and connecting a payment method. Both are covered in their own guides linked below.
